Years ago, when I graduated with my Master's degree, I was sure I had everything mapped out for a brilliant career as a coaching psychologist. I'd studied to the highest level of coach training at one of the only two universities in the UK that offered certification at Master Coach level (EMCC).

I understood the need for client contracts and indemnity insurance. I knew a website would be nice, showing my professionalism, and I'd post valuable content on social media, calling in my ideal clients.

Except, in reality, a coaching business doesn't come into being like that. As I began establishing my practice, a harsh reality emerged: I didn't know what I needed to know.

Worse still, I found myself dazzled by slick marketers and sales virtuosos who turned my head with their sparkly offers, each promising the elusive key to success.

I wasted a tonne of money on programs that weren't right for me. Each payment notification a sharp reminder of another misplaced hope.

I wasted a tonne of time chasing strategies that didn't align with my values. Hours, days, weeks lost to approaches that felt increasingly hollow, or beyond where I was at the time.

I wasted a tonne of emotional angst, questioning my decisions and those uncomfortable feelings of doing something that didn’t vibe with me, because that’s what my expensive mentor told me to do. That gnawing middle of the night anxiety wondering if I'd ever create the practice I'd envisioned when I proudly accepted my post-grad degree. Sometimes daydreaming about going back to the day job in my more fearful moments. Are you nodding along?

What I desperately needed - what I craved during those sleepless nights - was a trusted voice to cut through the noise and simply tell me:
